Spark Plug Torque Setting

From MQB Wiki

Spark plugs should be hand tightened then torqued to 30 Nm (22 ft lb) using a torque wrench.

Coil pack studs should be hand tightened only or 9 Nm (7 ft lb) if you insist on a torque setting.

It is extremely important that these bolts are not overtightened because the factory cam cradle (valve cover) is not tapped with threads from the factory. The factory studs have a triangular tip that cuts the thread during installation. Each time they are removed and reinstalled, this can widen and weaken the threads leading to eventual stripping.

Many owners opt to convert to a Coil Grounding Kit that moves the ground contact away from using the coil pack hold down studs and instead runs a dedicated ground from a factory ground point. This allows the studs to be converted to a more traditional bolt that does not have a self-tapping tip.
